App Of The Day: Mad Libs – Creative Stories Now On iOS

Mad LibsThere’s nothing quite like Mad Libs because just a few words can change everything. If you’re unfamiliar with Mad Libs, they’re stories missing a few words, and you simply fill in the blanks. The creative aspect is that you don’t know what the story is about, and the only cues for the blanks are questions asking for a noun, adjective, adverb, etc. Stories can change in complete meaning, and allow for some very humorous phrases with just a few words changed here and there.

All of the wackiness of Mad Libs is now on iOS thanks to the Mad Libs app from Penguin publishing. The app features one book with 21 stories for free, and there are 30 more books with 21 stories each to buy with in-app purchases. In the app, all you’re given is the title of the story, and then the app simply asks for nouns, adjectives, and adverbs, and then composes the story. You can play solo or with someone else, and if you’re ever fresh out of ideas on a particular word group, you can look for a hint. Once you fill in all of the words, the Mad Libs story is created allowing you to read back some hilarious stories with a few out of place words disrupting the entire meaning.

Mad Libs (Free, Universal) are absolute classics, and the iOS version breaths brand new life into them with the streamlined interface, and fun & friendly set-up. The app has been around for awhile, but was just updated to version 2.0 at the end of 2012. Also, the storybook app includes sharing options for your stories, as well as Game Center for some wacky achievements.
