iOS 12 Is Now Available For Update

iOS 12 was announced in June, and now three months later it’s available to download for everyone. The new iOS is compatible with the iPhone 5S and newer, iPad 5 and newer, and iPod touch 6th generation. In others words, the same devices that iOS 11 is compatible with. The full feature list includes over 200 additions with the main ones centering on performance enhancements. Older iPhones and iPads will see the largest benefits with the potential for two times faster app launches, 50% faster keyboard display, and 70% faster swipe to Camera. iOS 12 also features 4 new Animojis (ghost, T-Rex, tiger, and koala) as well as the new personalized MeMoji. Apple has also added Screen Time to let you monitor your device usage, and even put limits on specific apps, and your children’s devices. You can also now fine tune Do Not Disturb, as well as handle notifications in groups, quiet delivery, and adjust by specific app. Siri Shortcuts is a major new feature to let your device work with third party apps for quick actions for your regular iOS usage.

To update to iOS 12, simply go to Settings > General > Software Update, and iOS 12 should pop up with an “Update Now” tab as it propagates to servers. You can also perform the update on your computer by plugging in your iOS device, going to iTunes on the device page, and then click “Check for Update”. Apple has officially released iOS 12, but there will be server strain in the first few hours after 10AM Pacific, so keep that in mind. Be sure to back-up your device before starting the update, and if possible try to clean up some space by deleting apps you no longer use, and removing some unnecessary photos and videos.
