Just How Good is iPhone 4S Video? Watch Our Sample Vs. HD Camcorder & iPhone 4

The iPhone 4S has many improvements to the camera sensor and optics which translate to video as well as photos. On top of that, you an now take 1080P video with the iPhone 4S compared to 720P on iPhone 4. The iPhone 4S has such a great video camera that it can now be compared to Full HD camcorders. The 4S also features video stabilization thanks to the accelerometer and A5 chip.

We have a Canon Vixia HF10 camcorder that records full 1080P HD, and we filmed the same scene on the Canon and iPhone 4S. The results are below, and the most spectacular aspect is that you can’t tell the difference between the two. It’s great seeing the new iPhone 4S camera adjust to shifting light, and you can see the stabilization at work. The Canon is one of the best camcorders around, but a stand alone device for video isn’t necessary anymore. You can take the iPhone 4S with you, and snap video without planning to do so, as you would need to do, to bring the camcorder.

The iPhone 4S doesn’t have alternate modes, or optical zoom, but the video is superb, and you can capture it at a moment’s notice. The iPhone 4S is also a lot smaller than a camcorder, and you can edit the video right on your device with built-in edits or iMovie. The iPhone 4S is ending the need for multiple stand alone devices, and the camcorder is just another casualty. Compare the videos below, and be sure to watch in 1080P mode full screen to get the full effect.

As long as there is whobble in the image it isn’t usable for anything professional.
It’s nice for certain shot though.
