We've just seen so much of Asphalt already | Environments a little blocky

There are few things you can depend on in the App Store, but one you can be sure of is that there will be a new Asphalt racing game from Gameloft seemingly every year. Asphalt 7: Heat is now racing on iOS devices, and it brings more of Gameloft’s signature arcade racing to iOS. At first glance it looks similar to the Asphalt’s before it, but that would definitely be selling this game short. First off, the game is absolutely packed with content as the career mode features 13 different cups with four races each meaning you’re getting over 50 different racing challenges. There are also six different game modes to add variability beyond just the traditional race.

The game also features 15 different tracks with brand new visual designs as well as 60 different cars to unlock. One of the highlights of Asphalt has always been the unlockable authentic cars ranging from base line to exotic. The entire graphics engine has also been enhanced, and it’s easy to tell the crisper nature of everything on screen. Gameplay is most important though, because no matter how much there is to do, or how good it looks, it only matters if it’s enjoyable to play. Gameloft seems to have put some focus on enhancing the races to make the arcade feel even more pronounced.

The sense of speed in the game has been enhanced and accelerated so it really feels like you’re hauling a** through the streets. The computer opponents have also been improved so there’s greater challenge in every race. Your opponents will keep with you most of the way, and they will also bump and hamper you. The races are thoroughly engaging and enjoyable, which makes you appreciate all of the content and visuals that much more. As an added bonus there are also challenges to shoot for, like in Jetpack Joyride, and they’re a nice addition to the arcade racer. There’s also online multiplayer, in addition to the local multiplayer options.

The game is also only $0.99, instead of the typical $6.99 Gameloft price, and there are in-app purchases. I completely ignored any in-app purchases, and it didn’t hamper the gameplay experience in any regard. You earn bucks and stars at a rapid pace, and the gameplay is balanced so that car upgrades aren’t essential. You can fully enjoy the game including all of the races and cars without even knowing there are in-app purchases in the game.

Asphalt 7: Heat ($0.99, Universal) is a must buy that is a top notch iOS gaming experience which provides everything you could want from an arcade racer.
