Blitz Brigade – Disconnected From Something Good

2.0 Overall Score
Gameplay: 2.5/5
Design: 3.5/5
Duration: 1.5/5

High quality design | Fast paced online multiplayer

Servers simply can't handle demand | Poor match making set-up | Obtrusive IAP set-up

There are some popular game franchises that haven’t made their way to iOS. Not to worry, because Gameloft will make their own version of popular franchises made specifically for touch. Case and point, Blitz Brigade which is Gameloft’s take on the Team Fortress style of a class based online multiplayer first person shooter. Gameloft has done a very good job in the past with online multiplayer shooter, especially in their most recent Modern Combat, and N.O.V.A. games. In Blitz Brigade, you get to play as one of five classes each with their own arsenal of weapons, and skill sets, though later classes require you to level up.
There are two different online game modes with team deathmatch, and capture the flag style domination mode, and you can just start up quick play to get in the action in either mode. Each battle can have up to 12 players at once, and there are over 100 weapons to unlock, and three vehicles to pilot as well. The online multiplayer is the main component, but there’s a single player mode with 120 missions to play through. All of the features are delivered through deluxe 3D cartoon graphics, and tons of action as you blast away almost everything on screen.

The multiplayer is highly enjoyable when it works, as the map design keeps the enemies close for constant action. The problem is that it doesn’t work all that often, and most of the game is spent looking at a loading screen. In each multiplayer battle I’ve actually connected to, after multiple time-outs, I have been disconnected from finishing any complete match. The servers just don’t seem to be ready to handle the demand, and it leaves the game practically unplayable. Even when you do play, the matches aren’t set-up very well so they can start with just two players on the same team with nothing to do. blitz_brigade4 Also, there isn’t very good match making, which means you can be playing those who are at greater levels with better weapons, classes, and skills. Another drawback is the free to play mechanic, which is so obtrusive, that it costs 20 gems to unlock each pack of the single player missions, but there are six packs, and you only get enough to buy one pack with no way to earn gems. Also, the IAP set-up can let you buy advantage, which ties back into the poor match making.

Blitz Brigade (Free, Universal) feels like a hot mess with nothing ready to be enjoyed, which is extra disappointing since this game has been in beta server testing since January. Blitz Brigade is one to skip as you can rarely connect, and even when you do so, you can’t stay connected or battle against similar players. If you’re looking for an online multiplayer shooter, try out Shadowgun Deadzone, or another Gameloft shooter.

Server’s still not holding for us, have tried a couple matches everyday, and the connection hasn’t held for a full five minute match, six days since launch. Even when it does connect, there’s terrible match-making, in-app purchases that can provide bought advantages, restrictive IAP in the single player mode, and online matches that don’t begin at the proper timing with a full room.

I would give this a 2 as huge connection issues and constant drop out of games you actually can get into.
Also in-app store wont open Timed out connection has been from day 1 and have tried all sorts of connections, service team is a joke fill out a form and a retard will get back to you a few days later with no help what so ever
