David versus Goliath is one of the most well known conflicts of all time. David. is a new iOS game that offers an abstract version of the age old conflict giving you a single square battling against massive obtuse enemies. The action is controlled through a seamless slingshot mechanic to fit in with the David idea, and make it instantly accessible. The core gameplay offers an action packed experience with a free flowing onslaught of challenge. Each level offers a condensed arena where you try to take out every single enemy with your slingshot array of rainbow colors.
There’s a physics puzzle back-end mixed with the action arcade style for a relatively unique iOs gaming experience. You control the slingshot by simply holding your finger on screen to charge the weapon, and then dragging your finger to where you want to fire. It’s effortless to use, and time slows down when the slingshot is activated to give you more precision, while not being overwhelmed by an enemy. It’s surprising how the slow down mechanic would seemingly make the game easy, but it’s actually required to handle the intense challenge. There’s no doubt that David. is a difficult game, but it’s manageable, and not overly challenging just for the sake of challenge.
The game features eight main conflicts to battle in, and there are two difficulty modes with a normal and very hard component that gives you a single health point. There’s also an unlockable arena for completing each level, as well as an extra challenge for completing each level on very hard difficulty. There’s still not that much to the game as even with a few replays, you will get through each level in just a couple of minutes. It would be great to see more of the well designed experience, especially since each challenge is so unique. The game does look outstanding in motion with a minimalistic design accented by a flurry of colors.
David. ($0.99, Universal) is an action packed challenge that is well executed making it worth picking up. Too bad it leaves you wanting more.
