RELEASE DATE(S): December 8th, 2011
Dr. Seuss is the greatest name in kids books, and now may be extending out to music. Dr. Seuss Band isn’t quite Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, but that doesn’t mean there’s still not great things involved. Dr. Seuss Band comes from Oceanhouse Media who has crafted many of Dr. Seuss’ books for iOS, and now they have created a brand new app. It’s similar to Rock Band/Guitar Hero, but with more fun and more to deal with. The app is a bit similar to Magic Piano as well with the notes raining down, and you tapping and holding once they cross the notes at the bottom.

There are eight notes at the bottom of the screen, and you only tap once the raining notes cross the bottom. The app offers up three different difficulties with easy and medium perfect for kids, and hard challenging Rock Band veterans. There are 10 songs included which are all unique for the app, and based upon different Dr. Seuss books including The Cat in the Hat, Green Eggs and Ham, and Hop on Pop. As you play more songs you unlock the new songs as well as new instruments to play with. The hard mode uses a low and high note keyboard in addition to the main one amping up challenge, and control over the song variation.
Your main instrument is composed of three pieces, and you can swipe through the different pieces with 120 possible combinations. You can end up playing with a fish bowl, train whistle, curvy clarinet, and many more that all fit the Dr. Seuss style. There’s also a free play mode to let you play whatever you want, and everything sounds great. The given songs are all upbeat and engaging, and the notes sound so well flowing out of your iOS device. With the great songs, plenty of unlockables, and high scores you can keep coming back to make music time after time.
Dr. Seuss Band ($0.99, Universal) stands out form the crowded music genre with the Dr. Seuss personality infused into every note. The app is a should buy that will appeal to those of all ages.
