Goodnight room, goodnight moon, goodnight cow jumping over the moon. We all remember these words from Goodnight Moon, the ultimate classic bedtime story that was definitely my favorite as a kid. The book was written 65 years ago, and has now been redone for iOS bringing the classic story to a whole new generation. The Goodnight Moon app provides the classic story of a little bunny saying goodnight to everything in his room, and adds a lot to it. The biggest addition is over 200 touchable objects across the 30 pages to bring interactivity to the bedtime story.
The mittens, kittens, clocks, socks, brush, bowl full of mush, and quiet old lady whispering hush are all tappable, and react differently on certain pages. There are also hidden objects to discover by tapping on anything you can, and there’s also a magnifying glass to spot dream objects. As you tap on items you can unlock achievements to earn stickers which you can use to customize the back page to create your own book.
The app is designed as well as can be imagined with the animated items that can even pop off the page. There’s a piano soundtrack with three narration options, and every word in the story is tappable to hear it spoken aloud. The app is like a lot of other interactive storybooks, but the classic Goodnight Moon rhyming simplicity, and beautiful illustration is like no other. The transition to iOS is outstandingly smooth, and it’s a great app to have for those with little ones or for a walk down memory lane.
