Grand Prix Story – Kairosoft Races To Another Victory

Outstanding simulation experience | The game keeps you hooked

Not as complex as other Kairosoft games | Same basic design

Kairosoft is back at it again with another simulation game ported to the iPhone. This time it’s Grand Prix Story which provides a race team management sim to follow Game Dev Story, Mega Mall Story, Pocket Academy, and Hot Spring Story. Grand Prix Story is similar to all the other Kairosoft games as you begin slowly with base elements, and work your way up to more advanced elements, and more tasks at your disposal. You begin with a basic roadster, driver, and mechanic for your auto racing team, and then work your way up race by race.

You can earn research points to upgrade and research your car and learn about new parts to enhance your racecar. You’ll want to keep upgrading your car for it to perform better during the race, as you have no control during the race. You keep improving your car and driver, and then sit back and watch how your work performs just like if you were the manger of a real racing team. There are always new races to compete in, and if you don’t win it’s back to the garage for some adjustments until your car is strong enough to win.

As you play the stakes become higher allowing you to enter Grand Prixs, and earn sponsorships. You can also upgrade your driver and mechanics to make repairing and upgrading your car that much smoother. The game is like all other Kairosoft games in that it starts slow to introduce everything, and then adds new elements at a great pace to keep you hooked. It’s always surprising how much time passes as you keep improving your car to perform better in races. After about the first hour you’ve revealed everything in the game, and then after that it’s just about improving. There are always new race tracks and Grand Prixs to compete in, and there are new cars and parts to research to better compete.

Grand Prix Story ($2.99, iPhone) is simply a great simulation game, and Kairosoft has done it again. Mega Mall Story is probably Kairosoft’s best, and Grand Prix Story doesn’t have as many different elements to keep you as interested in the long term. Kairosoft still makes the best simulation games in the App Store that have such basic visuals, but such intricate gameplay which keeps you transfixed on the screen. The best aspect is that $2.99 gives you the full game, which is so much better than the current simulation game trend of making everything revolve around in-app purchases.

Grand Prix Story is another hit by Kairosoft that will have you caring so much about your racecar, and racing performance no matter if you have experience with Kairosoft games or not. Grand Prix Story is a should buy for the price that you’ll no doubt get so much play time out of.

Is it just me, or do the kairosoft releases have less and less importance to me?

good review, i’ve never actually played any Kairosoft games, but i hear good things about it, wish they would make these games for the ipad as well.. or make the existing releases universal, that would be epic! would love a code for shift 2 hd as well! i’ve RT’d, liked & tweeted as well. 🙂

I have only heard about Hot Springs Story though I haven’t even tried that. Most people I know wanted to play these simulations games on their iPad so I am surprised that they haven’t jumped on board yet.

Shift 2 for iPad would be so awesome. Thanks for the biggest and best giveaways.

I have been on the fence about Shift 2 (though I know I will get it in the end) would be great to win it here!

I quite like this game. Kairosoft was straying more and more away from the GDS formula which I fell in love with, but this is bringing it back a little.
