Gun style improves upon previous action puzzlers | Tons of levels | Varied weapons & levels

A bit on the easy side | Familiar for players of Fragger & Monster Island

Miniclip has made plenty of games, but their most popular is definitely Fragger where you toss grenades to blow up all of the enemies. It’s an action puzzle game, and Miniclip followed it up with Monster Island which is very similar, but with a monster theme. Now they’ve released Hambo, and it builds upon a similar mechanic, but is surprisingly unique.

You play as a pig version of Rambo who has a gun instead of a grenade like in Fragger. There are all kinds if pig soldiers to blast away, and you simply drag your finger to aim, and tap to fire. As you progress through the more than 200 levels you get to see how firing a gun is a lot more friendly and fun than tediously tossing a grenade. Also, Hambo can be knocked around the level which changes the position of the shot. Hambo provides much more action in the action puzzle style as you shoot a glass platform, and then shoot again right away to hit the pigs, all while sliding or flying around.

Every single level offers a unique layout, although many are on the simple side. The only real complaint is that it can be too easy for some players, especially if you’re familiar with Fragger or Monster Island. With that said, it’s still an enjoyable game because the controls are silky smooth, and the action continuously flows. One neat aspect is that you have a pistol to begin, but can unlock an uzi for multiple bullets at once, as well as other weapons. The different weapons open up new challenges, and everything is tied to trying to get gold on each level.

Hambo ($0.99, iPhone / $2.99, iPad) maintains the enjoyable aspects of other Miniclip games, and freshens the entire experience with the gun style. The game is nicely designed whether it’s the artwork or animated action, though there are no retina iPad graphics. Hambo is worth picking up as it is taking dead aim at your free time.
