Heads Up! launched last May, and has since taken over the App Store with the multiplayer fun, and Ellen DeGeneres’ backing. Now, there’s Heads Up Pictures, which offers a similar style, but designed to be even more accessible. Rather than just words, you’re given pictures to describe, and guess. The gameplay is still based on Indian Poker, HeadBanz, or just slapping a sticky note on your forehead. An item is written on the card that you place on your forehead, and the other player tries to give you hints to help you guess that item. Heads Up! Pictures uses the iPhone as the card holder, and lets you tilt down to mark as correct, and tilt up to pass to get to the next clue.
Heads Up! Pictures may be even more enjoyable than the original, which is quite an achievement. The highlight of the Pictures edition is that it gives you all new ideas in how to describe given items. You will likely come up with completely different clues as you end up explaining the image, and you may not have thought of the same terms with just the word. There are five card decks included that present animals, household items, occupations, characters, items that start with B, and a scavenger hunt pack that lets you capture your own images of the given list of items. The app includes a number of additional packs for $0.99 each, but the five packs you get for the $0.99 purchase price are well worth it. The included packs offering varying levels of challenge to appeal to all ages.
There’s still the same fast paced fun to be had with family, and friends that will likely lead to tons of laughs. The most enjoyable part is what various people can come up with under the time constraints. The pictures lead to more humorous explanations, and guesses as there are all new terms used. The new version also includes enhancements to the video capturing system to make it easier to save, and share the person giving the clues. Heads Up! is great, while Heads Up! Pictures delivers more of the same with a fresh style for even greater appeal. The only drawback is that it would be nice to see more card packs included with the initial purchase.
Heads Up Pictures ($0.99, iPhone) is one of the best ways to play together with your iPhone that is well worth picking up.
