Luxor Evolved – Revitalizing The Genre With Retro Style

Action packed gameplay | Revitalizes the genre | Outstanding design

Still a marble shooter | Not much replay value

Luxor is a classic game, and has found a nice home on iOS as well. There are a number of choices for marble shooters in the App Store, highlighted by the recent addition of Zuma’s Revenge. MumboJumbo took a back seat to PopCap, but they have a brand new version of Luxor as they look to shift the balance back. Luxor Evolved is a retro inspired version of Luxor with neon arcade graphics, and fast paced action. The game is reminiscent of Pac-Man Championship Edition and Space Invaders Infinity Gene where classic games are revitalizes with retro arcade action.

As soon as you start up the first level, you can tell this is different than any other Luxor game in the App Store. They all suffer from a relatively slow pacing, and a feeling of easiness. Luxor Evolved is fast paced with new chains coming in constantly, and continuous shooting required on your part. There’s never a dull moment across over 60 levels, and it livens up the marble shooter genre like no iOS game before it. There’s also plenty of variation among the levels with bonus stages, secret levels, survival challenges, and boss battles.

The game also includes unlockables which include 20 power-ups, and the secret levels that offer up all new level layouts. The graphical design is simply superb, and the explosion of particles and colors add to the intense feel of the game. There’s a techno soundtrack similar to Space Invaders Infinity Gene and Groove Coaster as well. The gameplay is the definite highlight though, as MumboJumbo has done a great job of bringing arcade action to this relatively stale genre.

Luxor Evolved ($4.99, Universal) is a must buy that is the best marble shooter, and one of the best arcade and puzzle games in the App Store.
