Big Fish Games made news recently for their gaming subscription app which was approved then removed. The app was important for Big Fish Games because they make so many great games coming out on a weekly basis. This week, they released Patchworkz which is a tangram style puzzle game mixed with art. Most games in the genre require you to use abstract shapes to perfectly fit in certain spots on the board, and it takes a lot of trial and error, and not the most logic.

Patchworkz on the other hand focuses on mosaics, and you fill in the missing pieces by matching shape as well as color to fit into the overall artwork. The puzzle style is for one and all, and it’s great to see every image come to life and take shape as you add in the missing pieces. There’s no rotation, or tedious nature to this game as you figure out where each piece goes. As you advance, there are more and more missing pieces to place, and the pieces are smaller and smaller. The challenge is definitely there, and there are 150 levels overall across seven different types of mosaic materials with glass, stone, paper, and more.

Patchworkz (Free, iPhone / Free, iPad) is free to download, and you get the first puzzle pack of 24 levels for free. To unlock the full games, it’s $1.99 on the iPhone and $3.99 on the iPad, and it’s a great deal for the engaging nature of these puzzles. The game is a should buy for those prices, and if you do give the a game a try for free, you’ll be hooked and end up splurging for the full game, so be warned now.
