There are so many games blending together under the term “freemium” which is a dreaded word for a number of iOS users. Pixel People is the latest freemium building simulation game, but you can toss any preconceived notions out the window now because they don’t apply. You begin in space set to build your own Utpoia building by building while splicing together genes to craft clones into new roles. Every single thing you do in Pixel People is designed to push your city forward pixel by pixel.
Pixel People is another building simulation, but what makes it stand out is that it’s more like Sim Town than anything else, and that means you get to control each little aspect in a fun and friendly way. From the first time you launch the game, you can get a feel for the great pixel style, great presentation, and tons of personality. Your town starts with humble beginnings with just the city hall, arrival center, mechanic, and mayor. From there you begin your city by splicing together the mayor and mechanic, to make an engineer, then mayor, and engineer, and then you’re well on your way to a thriving and bustling city.
There are 150 pixel people to create, each with their own special role, and most bring a new building along with them. For instance, the athlete gives you a stadium to build, the doctor brings the hospital, artist offers up a gallery, and so forth. Your town slowly, but surely comes together, and it’s all from experimenting to find which two jobs go together to create an all new job. Pixel People does a great job of connecting with the player, and once you make your first combination, you’ll strive to unlock all 150 unique pixel people. The entire game is designed so well so that it’s great to jump into for a few minutes at a time, but can also suck you in as you aim for the next goal. As a special added bonus, you can collect 11 hearts from your villagers to unlock special animals.
As stated at the beginning, Pixel People is a freemium game, but the payment system doesn’t get in the way of fully enjoying all the game has to offer. You can unlock all 150 characters, and build out your city to epic proportions without paying one cent. You can buy Utopium for real money, but it’s only to speed things along at a widespread pace, because you earn Utopium as well. In fact, you can unlock about 60-70 different characters before the game slows down at all. LambdaMu Games has crafted an excellent iOS experience that is packed with every element to make for something you can’t resist.
