Once you begin with an outlandish theme like Pizza vs. Skeletons, you instantly stand out in an overcrowded App Store. It takes more than a great name to have staying power, and playing as an oversized pizza rolling over skeletons is a great way to start. The game starts off slowly enough by introducing the basics, and then you need to be ready for the unexpected because you never know what the next level will hold. The game features 100 levels across 10 chapters, and the variability is off the charts as there are new objectives coming at you all the time.
The game is bursting at the seams with personality as you crush skeletons, roll down ski slopes, sumo wrestle giant skulls, rescue puppies, smash various worlds, dive in the sea, and go up into space. It’s absolutely amazing to see each new level, and the hand drawn artwork is gorgeous to witness in motion. The gameplay itself is simply perfect for iOS devices with such intuitive tilt and touch controls. The tilt controls are silky smooth allowing for such precision as you take on each progressively outlandish objective. The levels go pretty quickly, but the game keeps them coming hot and heavy, and you just want to keep seeing more.
If that wasn’t enough there is a three star scoring system for replay, and this is the type of game where you’ll want to make it to the finish. There’s never a reason to stop, so you’ll keep playing through the level to uncover the next new challenge. You also get to customize your character based on the coins you collect in game to make it feel that much more personal. There are huge boss battles too, and we can’t commend enough how well each level provides a unique challenge that takes advantage of iOS.
Pizza vs. Skeletons ($2.99, Universal) is an absolute must buy that truly does everything right for such a unique and engaging iOS experience that you just can’t get enough of.
