A number of puzzle games in the App Store are on the easy side, and that’s why it’s always refreshing to come across logic based puzzle games that truly require some thought. Qvoid is one challenging logic based puzzle game, and the developers of Qvoid have just released Puzzle Restorer which fits in the same brain teaser genre, but with a whole new style. Puzzle Restorer is a paint based game that is more of a path drawing logic puzzler. Every image in the game is composed on a 10 by 10 grid, so they’re all square based, and your goal is to color specific squares to fill out the full painting.
The game features 64 different paintings with each one partially filled, and you’re required to just fill in the missing squares. The main challenge of the game is that you usually have one stroke, and you need to start at one paint square, and finish at another square of the same color while filling in all of the missing squares along the way. It makes for extreme challenge where you have to think before you act as your one line needs to fill in 25 or 50 squares.
Like any good logic puzzler it can seem daunting and frustrating at times, but there is a method to figure the proper path to fill out the painting. In addition to the 64 levels, there are also 16 bonus paintings to unlock where the paint works in reverse for some even tougher brain teasers. As you progress, you come across levels with multi-colors, color mixing objectives, and multiple strokes. Since the game is about paintings, it’s interesting to see the unique art style that delivers pixel art based paintings that are high on style. The game isn’t for everyone, but if you like slow and methodical puzzle games that are about multiple tiers to complete then you will have a lot to enjoy.
Puzzle Restorer ($0.99, Universal) delivers artful expressions of touch based puzzling that is worth the price of admission.
