Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote such fabulous tales of the trials and tribulations of super sleuth Sherlock Holmes. There’s a whole new way to read one of Holmes’ cases with the S.Holmes Byook app which is all about creating an experience beyond words. The story is The Speckled Band, and it’s an ebook unlike any other that provides an immersive experience with pictures, animations, and sound effects. Every single page offers up a doodle that is drawn in real time around the edges of the text.

There are also animations related to the text like the lady revealing her veil, or mud splattering on the screen. The edges of each page are in constant motion, and there are some transition pages that look like cardboard cutouts in a popup book. There are sound effects as well, and the text is perfectly fitted for the size of the iPhone or iPad screen. The Byook offers up a full experience that hooks you in, and doesn’t let you go.

You feel connected to the story to such a greater extent than just text can convey, and you’re always intrigued by every turn of the page. The Byook enhances your imagination to really feel like you’re in the room with the great detective and his loyal companion, Watson. You pick up the subtleties of Holmes even better, and you have a greater sense of the mystery as a whole. The iPad version is especially a great platform to read on, and feels like the future of books.

The S.Holmes Byook ($1.99, iPhone / $2.99, iPad) is a whole new way to read, and you really become invested in the story. The Speckled Band tale is a great text to surround with all the animated artwork and sounds. The Byook is a must buy for the price that any iOS owner will thoroughly enjoy. The app is even better than other great iPad book appss like Pride and Prejudice and Zombies: The Interactive eBook, Sherlock Holmes w/ Booktrack, and Little Fear the free byook.
