The World Cup is in full swing, and it gets many in futbol/soccer fever around the globe. That has resulted in a glut of soccer games, and one intriguing new entry is Uppercup Football. It’s the familiar game infused with arcade action, and one touch controls that is unlike any other soccer game you have played. The different pitches can allow for a consistently changing strategy, and simply the unknown excitement that comes from the potential peculiar bounces of the ball.

The game includes 100 matches to partake in, split up into five at a time in each cup that’s presented, as you travel to new locales. Each opponent includes their own twist, as well as humorous outfit whether it’s Batman, unicorn head, bombs, and more. There’s simply tons of variety, and a whole lot of matches to play through to keep things fresh. The game also invites you to replay matches with two extra difficulties. To further emphasize the arcade nature, each match gives you two, and a half minutes to outscore your opponent by a certain number of goals. You can earn bonus time, and if you give up a goal, that’s just one more you have to score to help make for a fast paced on the go set-up.

The ultimate highlight of Uppercup Football is that it’s simply fun above all else with a free flowing nature of strategy and randomness mixed together. The one touch control scheme lets you simply tap to lock in the direction, and power of your shot as you try to maneuver the ball to the opponent’s goal. Along the way there are tons of things that can get in the way with the various obstacles, as well as resulting choices that can impact multiple players. Part of the game is trying to use the obstacles to your advantage, embodied by the electric ball, which triggers after every six bounces, and you can try to time it up to hit the opponents goalie. There are a lot of little subtleties with the various elements that are continually introduced, and the result is that each match feels like a fresh challenge. There’s never a dull moment, and it’s quite a treat to see the various items triggered, especially when it results in an unplanned goal.

Uppercup Football (Free, Universal) offers tons of enjoyment thanks to the crazy set-up, implemented extremely well to make for a must have title.
