There’s so much creativity by App Store developers, and a brand new adventure of a green boy in a gelatinous blob looking for his undies highlights that creativity. Wimp: Who Stole My Pants is a platformer that uses the blob to create brand new platforming mechanics. As you advance through 50 levels, you can stick to surfaces, explode for double jumps, use in-air controls, and more that are unlocked as you go. The levels have nice puzzle elements as you need to flip switches, move boxes, dodge or push enemies, avoid toxic sludge, move shifting platforms, and tons more.
Wimp combines the classic platformer elements with brand new mechanics based on your slime ball form. In each level, your goal is to collect three toilet paper rolls, and finally your undies to unlock the exit point. The levels design is absolutely exquisite to make a game that isn’t about simply running forward, as there is definite thought required. There are some challenging and tricky sequences, and they’re all based on the intricate level design that makes for tons of variety across all of the included levels.
A big question mark for any platformer is the controls, and Wimp absolutely nails the virtual controls to provide pinpoint precision when you’re moving through the difficult stretches. The controls get out of the way to let you focus on the puzzle platformer at hand with new elements introduced at a great rate. The game worlds are great looking as well, and the app is made for the iPhone 5 and new iPad along with older iOS devices. There’s great replayability to aim for three rolls per level along with Game Center, and iCloud support.
Wimp: Who Stole My Pants ($0.99, Universal HD / $0.99, SD) is a wonderful iOS experience that delivers a brand new style bursting with creativity. The game is made so that your fingers will be stuck to the screen, and there’s nothing wimpy about this top notch puzzle platformer. Wimp is a must buy that nails every aspect, and you will absolutely love every minute of it.
