Left wanting more | May be a bit too easy to start

Zuma has finally made it to iOS, and it follows other great PopCap games including Plants vs Zombies, Peggle, and Bejeweled. Zuma’s Revenge is the newest adventure version of the series that first launched for PC/Mac in April of 2011. Now the full version comes to iOS, and greatly builds upon the original back from 2003. In Zuma’s Revenge, there are 60 adventure levels with six boss battles included as you traverse the island your frog crashed upon. If you’re unfamiliar with Zuma, it’s the original marble shooter where chains of marbles roll around the screen, and you fire from the frog to try to make matches of at least three.

The game has been perfectly balanced for iOS, and it really feels like it was built for touch from the ground-up. You can fire marbles by tapping where you want to shoot or dragging and aiming for some precision. We’ve played a number of marble shooters on iOS, and Zuma’s Revenge is the best yet with an outstanding flow for multiple chains and combos. There’s also a perfectly balanced difficulty curve to keep the challenge flowing, and there’s never a dull moment across the adventure, and 60 additional challenges.

There are plenty of power-ups along the way to keep the action fresh, and the only other thing we could ask for would be Game Center. It’s always tough to balance marble shooters with many good attempts including Luxor, Sparkle, Stoneloops, and Atlantis Sky Patrol among others. Zuma really nails it though so that each shot is important as you try to set-up, and create chains of matches so you can clear the board with as many points and fewest shots as possible.

Zuma’s Revenge ($4.99, Universal HD / $1.99, iPhone) combines all the greatness of Zuma with silky smooth touch controls, and amazing gameplay balance for a must buy.
