CES 2016: Parrot Announces All New iPhone Controlled Drone

Parrot is well known when it comes to consumer drones with their quadricopter, AR.Drone. At CES 2016, they had a brand new drone to show off, and this one is a fixed wing model to resemble a traditional jet. It’s called the Parrot Disco, and weighs 700 grams while providing 45 minutes of battery life, and can reach speeds of up to 50 mph. It also features a 1080p 14-megapixel camera on the front, and the camera feed can go right to your iPhone or iPad. The Parrot Disco can be controlled over WiFi by the FreeFlight iOS app, just like other Parrot dones.

The fixed wing nature of the Parrot Disco isn’t new, but Parrot is positioning the Disco as the most consumer friendly fixed wing drone on the market. One of the features that best emphasizes this is the ability to just shake the drone to activate it, and then toss it into the air for it to take over, and start flying. It’s essentially automatic lift-off, and there’s an automatic landing set-up too.

The Parrot Disco is still a prototype, but is planned to launch by the end of 2016, though no pricing was given.
