Gather Round Event: Apple Announces Apple Watch Series 4

Apple kicked off the Gather Round event with the Apple Watch Series 4. The device largely resembles previous generations, but the screen has been pushed to the edges, and curved to fit most of the glass screen. The resulting screen is 35% larger on the smaller version and 32% larger on the larger version. The 38mm and 42mm sizes have been bumped up to 40mm and 44mm sizes with the increase. The device itself is slightly thinner too, though no specific details were announced.

On the inside, there’s the new S4 chip that is a dual core 64-bit processor that is up to 2X faster than the Series 3. The speaker is 50% louder with a new accelerometer and gyroscope. The new motion sensors can help your Apple Watch detect falls, and can even call 911 after a period of time of non response. The Apple Watch Series 4 has new heart monitoring features with a low heart rate alert, heart rhythm screening in the background, and the ability to take an electrocardiogram. Through it all, the Apple Watch Series 4 has the same all day battery life of up to 18 hours of previous generations, though no improvement in battery.

The Apple Watch Series 4 starts at $399 for the GPS version, and $499 for the LTE edition. The Apple Watch Series 3 is sticking around at $279. Orders begin this Friday September 14th, and start shipping on September 21st. Watch OS 5 will be available next Wednesday September 17th.
