Gather Round Event: Apple Unveils The iPhone XS & iPhone XS Max

After Apple Watch Series 4, Apple came to the star of the show, the iPhone. For 2018, Apple announced the iPhone XS & iPhone XS Max. The iPhone XS features the highlights of the iPhone X, accented with the new A12 chipset. The A12 is a six core CPU with two performances cores and four efficiency cores. All six cores can run simultaneously to run up to 50% faster. There is also a “neural engine” with eight cores for machine learning and faster Face ID recognition.

The iPhone XS Max is about the same size as the iPhone 8 Plus, but with a boost of screen size from 5.5″ to 6.5″. The same edge to edge OLED screen as the iPhone X, just now over a larger canvas at 2688 x 1242. The machine learning of the A12 Bionic allows for real time analysis of the camera feed for multiple use cases. CoreML has been enhanced to be nine times faster at one tenth the energy for an improved AR experience.

There’s also an improved dual camera system that maintains the 12 megapixel wide angle and 12 megapixel telephoto lenses with improved sensors for each. The front facing camera has a new TrueDepth 7 megapixel sensor that is twice as fast. Apple combines the camera system with the A12 bionic for faster face detection, facial landmarking, and more. There’s also the new smart HDR to take multiple photos, and merge them all together in the background. You will now be able to adjust the depth of field after the shot.

The iPhone XS/Max comes in 64GB, 256GB, and 512GB, and are available to order September 14th, and shipping on September 21st. The iPhone XS starts at $999 and the XS Max starts at $1099.
