Apple reached the point of the event to introduce their first piece of hardware. It’s the Apple Watch Series 2. The new Apple Watch is swim proof up to 50 meters deep. That also allows for new swim specific activity tracking. There’s a brand new processor, the S2, second generation System in a Package. The new S2 is a dual core chip that is up to 50% faster with two times improved graphics performance. The screen is also improved to be two times brighter for better viewing in direct sunlight. As expected, there’s an included GPS chip for more accurate location tracking for a wide variety of apps.
The new Apple Watch also has a new ceramic construction material to present a pearl white option that is four times stronger than the stainless steel option. Apple has also partnered with Nike for the special Apple Watch Nike Plus with special quick access to running apps.
In terms of pricing, the Apple Watch series 2 will start at $369. The Series 1 will remain, but with the second generation chip, and start at $269. Pre-orders start on September 9th, and will go on sale a week later.
In addition to the new device, there’s also watchOS 3 with instant launch apps, new animations, watch app dock, and more. WatchOS 3 will be available to download on September 13th.
