XMG Studio has made quite a name for itself with unique games and licensed games including Inspector Gadget’s Mad Dash, Degrassi, Cows vs Aliens, and Powder Monkeys. The next game they’re working on is a licensed game, and it features one of the most well known icons around in Ghostbusters. At MacWorld|iWorld, XMG was showing off an upcoming location based Ghostbusters game which lets you suck up ghosts from your own surroundings. It takes augmented reality one step further by connecting to Foursquare locations allowing you to find ghosts at local cafes, libraries, and bus stops.

For example, you get a call in the game to go catch Slimer down at the Starbucks by you. The game will let you search on a map, and be alerted when you’re near a location while using the iPhone as a PK Meter. You can be a real Ghostbuster searching for virtual ghosts in your real world surroundings. Location based games have yet to pick-up, but XMG is hoping the Ghostbusters name will ignite the genre like never before. The game has only been in development for a couple of months, and the worldwide release isn’t expected until the summer.

XMG had more to show as well including the just launched Totally Amp’d, which is an interactive Tween-Teen video app. The app is free to download, and it delivers a weekly sitcom about teens starting their own music group, and you can unlock the full season for $4.99. You can watch the episodes, and then interact with the post production in the music, movie, and design studio. The app lets you record your own voice, choose the music video edits, and design the characters attire and band graphics. Totally Amp’d launched during MacWorld, and is now available.

XMG also showed a bit of their upcoming sequel to Drag Racer: Pro Tuner which is still their most profitable title. The sequel, Drag Racer World, will enhance the game in almost every way by providing more car customizations, enhanced gameplay, and some 3D elements to the original 2D layout. XMG is growing a lot as a studio as well, and is looking for big things in 2012. The Ghostbusters game may have the most potential of anything we saw at MacWorld.
