More In The Making Event: Apple Announces New MacBook Air With Retina Display




The MacBook Air hasn’t gotten much attention from Apple over the past couple of years. Some even speculated that Apple could be discounting the Air line. Instead, Apple has redesigned the entire machine, and announced it at today’s “There’s More In The Making” Event. The big addition is the new retina display for the 13.3″ screen. The display includes over four million pixels for a four times increase over its predecessor as well as a 48% color boost. The screen itself has a new think black bezel which allows the device as a whole to take up 17& less volume. The new Air is also 10% thinner, and 0.25 pounds lighter to weigh just 2.75 pounds.

The new MacBook Air adopts the third generation butterfly keyboard from the MacBook Pro. The keyboard includes a new TouchID sensor as well as the secure T2 chip that also support always on “Hey Siri”. The Trackpad has also been enhanced for a 20% larger area as well as force touch capabilities. The speaker system gains a boost to deliver 25% louder volume and double the bass. As far as internals, the new MacBook Air starts with an 8th generation Intel dual core i5 chip with 8GB of RAM, and 128GB of storage.

The MacBook Air with Retina Display starts at $1,199 with orders starting today, and shipments beginning on November 7th.
