EA Gobbles Up Firemint, Developers of Flight Control & Real Racing

Firemint has been one of the best iOS developers since the launch of the App Store with releases like Flight Control and Real Racing. It seems Electronic Arts agrees Firemint is a great iOS development studio because they have bought Firemint for an undisclosed amount. This announcement follows up EA’s purchase of Chillingo a few months back.

We don’t know what will result from the deal, but we do know one thing for sure. EA is aggressively pursuing the mobile sector. This can only be good news for iOS gamers as the great gaming minds of Firemint have even more resources at their disposal. Firemint had their own spending spree recently when they bought fellow Australian developer Infinite Interactive; makers of Puzzle Quest.

Real Racing 2 may be the most advanced game for iOS, so who knows what’s possible next. Firemint is also working on their next release Agent Squeek, which may benefit from some synergy with the new EA partnership.

EA hasn’t been resting on their laurels and big name franchises when it comes to iOS games. Since December of last year there has been a noticeable increase in the quality of EA games. Lets hope they keep it up, and make iOS gaming that much more enjoyable.
